For the second time, the Italian athlete Alex Zanardi takes part in the IRONMAN World Championship, ending with a bang the toughest Triathlon in the world: 4 km open water swim, 180 km bike and 42 km run.
All those who complete the three sections within a maximum total time of 17 hours gain the title of Ironman. The final time of the ex car driver is 9h 40’ 37’’, 7 minutes less than the past year.
Despite the problems due to a bad indigestion occurred during the swim section, he triumphed in his category and placed 167th in the overall ranking of 2.367 participants (women and men). With him, his trainer Francesco Chiappero who has deeply followed the training: defining an eating plan, studying the athlete’s biomechanics and the equipment ergonomics using dynamic electromyography and infrared-based kinematics, planning a support phase during the tests of each discipline and assuring an accurate set up of the equipment.
