Every year during the Congress of the Italian Society of Clinical Movement Analysis, an evaluation committee made up of professionals of this field honors a young researcher for the best scientific work on Gait Analysis with an internship at a BTS laboratory in Europe.
Last week Mariangela Dipaola, the winner of the BTS-SIAMOC 2015 prize, took the internship at the laboratory of Movement Analysis (LAM) of the Children’s Hospital Niño Jesus in Madrid. She joined different practical sessions and moments of open discussion on patients’ medical history, final reports and potential treatments.
Driven by the physiotherapist and coordinator of the LAM activities, Sergio Lerma Lara, and Dr. Ignacio Martinez Caballero, surgeon and orthopedic responsible of the lab, she had the possibility of attending the functional evaluation session of patients with various pathologies such as Cerebral Palsy, some monitored after an operation and others affected by motor disorders following head injury.
During this week, she presented her work “Altered centre of mass vertical displacement in Parkinson disease patients during walking” to the students of the University La Salle of Madrid also attending some lessons of Dr. Lerma.
