Like every year the SIAMOC Congress has closed with the assignment of the Internship Award raffled by BTS.
Chiara Camilla Derchi, PhD in Philosophy and Human Sciences (department of University of Milan), is the winner of SIAMOC 2016! The research project, carried out in collaboration with Fondazione Don Gnocchi of Milan and San Raffaele Rehabilitation Center of Ceglie Messapica, stood out for its innovation, originality and method used.
The work entitled “Behind an eye blink: a new empirical perspective on intentional action” showed that it is possible to distinguish the intentional eye blinking from the involuntary one. This distinction is very important for patients with severe body paralysis or with disorders of consciousness that can use the eye blinking as command signal or communication channel.
