BTS GEMINI
BTS GEMINI is the complete solution for functional and quantitative evaluation of pathologies involving spinal pain, balance disorders, spinal deformities and structural
misalignments.
BTS GEMINI permits the investigation of patient’s morphological and structural status in static and dynamic conditions, obtaining accurate measurements concerning body asymmetries, global and segmental spinal kinematics (vertical mobility, range of motion, angular speed/acceleration, etc), ground load distribution as well as general patient’s proprioception. Moreover, it allows for the evaluation of spinal orthotics effectiveness.
BTS GEMINI is applicable for any medical facility dealing with postural disorder assessments and treatments.
The availability of quantitative and 3-D data related to postural kinematics is fundamental for medical practitioners and rehabilitation physicians. The evaluation through
traditional video systems, optical scanning etc, can provide only qualitative and 2-D data that is a barely accurate description for a tri-dimensional movement performed by the subject especially if this task is dynamic movement (i.e. bending).
Objective data through an easy and quick exam
Thanks to latest infrared camera technology, all the postural parameters required for an in-depth evaluation, are measured with ease and precision.
The need for further invasive exams is significantly reduced, shortening the patient’s therapeutic recovery and improving his quality of life.
New integrated analysis protocols
BTS, widely known in international clinical fields for its advanced motion analysis systems, developed, together with the
Functional Recovery and Rehabilitation Service, Domus Salutis - Brescia, Italy, a functional evaluation protocol suite.
Productivity and ease of use
By means of “Ready to use” protocols, practitioners can quickly perform specific exams, easily obtaining detailed reports.
The physician, furthering addition to a preliminary clinical evaluation, identifies the appropriate protocol for the patient’s pathological condition.
Each protocol is defined by a specific set of reflecting markers to be applied to the patient. Through infrared cameras, the system measures frame by frame the markers 3-D coordinates (X,Y,Z) while specific physical maneuvers are performed, calculating trajectory, extent, angular dimensions, (flex extension, abduction-adduction, intra and
extra rotation), speed and acceleration. The automatic output is a clinical report that integrates the data relating to the morphology and kinematics pertaining to the analyzed body section.
Refundable Exam
Reimbursement codes related to postural, balance and movement evaluation are included in the list of national health institutions, such as CPT in US, DRG in EU
or NHS within UK. Institutes and healthcare practitioners affiliated with major medical insurance plans can have reimbursement provided for such exams.

Precision and accuracy
Anatomical repere points are used in every analysis technique, including the video-raster-seterografia, but the individuation through spherical or semi spherical markers allows major precision and accuracy compared to the manual selection on video or to that based on circular flat tapes use.
Complete and integrated Analysis
Subject posture can be analyzed entirely from head to toe, unlike traditional devices that provide partial analysis up just to the rachis.
All information can be integrated with data coming from a stabilometric plate.
True 3-D Analysis
The 3-D analysis does not require the re-orientation of the subject and allows evaluating different postures in dynamic conditions.
The most advanced technology in motion analysis.
It points out and processes angles, acceleration, and trajectory to understand patient’s postural and motion strategies, without being limited to morphological analysis.
Fast and versatile
Long and unproductive calibrations for each patient are not required: the automatic calibration creates a virtual room where the patient is evaluated
independently by his antropometric measures.
It does not require the use of interpretative models: measurement is direct and real.
It works with orthotics or other orthesis as well.
Full comprehension of patient’s posture and motion strategy
Trunk lateral bending: a report example
When pain, unsteadiness and spinal deformities affect the patient, spinal mobility is consequently limited: lateral flexion movement range, speed and acceleration, can be reduced and non-symmetrical.
The template elaborates the global spinal mobility in degrees, and the segmental spinal mobility:
meaning lateral flexion angles differences, speed and acceleration (i.e. stiffer segment in right lateral flexion: lumbar segment 8°).
During follow-up sessions, it will be possible to evaluate several parameters.
