BTS uses two kinds of platforms in its systems: with strain gauge sensors manufactured by AMTI and Bertec and with piezoelectric sensors,  manufactured by Kistler.

All platforms are multicomponent and consequently provide data corresponding to the three x, y and z components of the forces (median, back – front, vertical), the coordinates of the centre of pressure (Px, Py) and the torque Mz, after data processing by BTS software.

Piezoelectric sensor Platforms:
KISTLER platforms
KISTLER force platforms use piezoelectric sensors. These platforms measure the three orthogonal components of the forces in the three coordinate axes, for the 4 sensors, internally reduced to 8 channels. BTS software processes this data in real time to generate the 6 outputs Fx, Fy, Fz, Px, Py, Mz.
The supported models are 9281C, 9281CA, 9285, 9286A, 9286AA, 9287.
Dimensions and weights depend on the model. The most commonly used is the portable model 9286 of dimensions 60x40x3.5 cm and weight 18 kg with measurement ranges Fx, Fy ±2.5 kN and Fz 0..10 kN.

For platforms not fitted with an amplifier, an external Kistler amplifier can be used and the BTS PCAC4 amplifier (card for PC) is also available.

Strain gauge sensor platforms:
AMTI platforms
These platforms measure the three orthogonal components of the forces and of the moments in the three coordinate axes, consequently 6 outputs. BTS software processes this data in real time to generate the 6 outputs Fx, Fy, Fz, Px, Py, Mz.
All platforms of the OR6 series for biomechanical applications are supported.
They are available for vertical loads of 4450, 8900, 17800 Newton. The dimensions of these platforms are 50.8x46.4 cm, width of 8.25 cm and weight depending on the model, from 18 to 45 kg. The signal is processed by the AMTI MSA-6 amplifier.

BERTEC platforms
These platforms measure the three orthogonal components of the forces and of the moments in the three coordinate axes, consequently 6 outputs. BTS software processes this data in real time to generate the 6 outputs Fx, Fy, Fz, Px, Py, Mz.
All platforms are supported: the 4550, 4060, and 4080 model plates are generally used for clinical and research gait analysis; whereas, the 6090, 9090,and 6012 model force plates are well suited for the rigors of sports, dynamic biomechanics, ergonomics, and industrial research.
They are available for vertical loads of 5000, 10000, 20000 Newton. Size and weight depend on the model. Each force plate includes a built-in digital amplifier for signal conditioning.
