On Saturday 22nd July, the partnership between BTS Bioengineering and Obiettivo 3 – Verso Tokyo 2020, the new project led by Alex Zanardi, Handbike’s Paralympic Champion, was officially inaugurated. The project aims at recruiting, steering and supporting people with disabilities in order to start a sporting activity; it also represents an opportunity to identify at least 3 athletes capable of growing, to get selected for the next Paralympic Games of Tokyo 2020.
Works and tests are carried out at our offices of Noventa Padovana, that has become a real laboratory at Alex Zanardi and his team disposal, for tests on the handbikes tailor-made for the first 5 athletes selected among thousands of applications arrived from all over Italy.
During the event of Saturday Dr. Francesco Chiappero, athletic trainer of Alex Zanardi has carried out a first biomechanical evaluation of the individual candidates using our systems based on a protocol implemented over the years thanks to the experience with Alex Zanardi and the Paralympic Champion Vittorio Podestà.
Zanardi thanks BTS Bioengineering “for the warm welcome and for giving us a confortable facility at our disposal that made a great difference. After this first phase, that will allow the guys to train independently, it will be necessary to better study biomechanics to adapt handbikes to every athlete’s need. From the point of view of my direct experience: the route taken with my personal trainer using BTS equipment has been decisive and I am sure that it will be the same to help our guys”.
We are very happy and proud of being part of this project providing our systems for the sports evaluation of athletes with disabilities.
We wish good work to the whole team of Obiettivo 3, that we thank for choosing us as technological partner and official headquarter of the next activities.
