Our motion analysis systems have been used in an innovative study for the evaluation of non-pharmacological treatments of Parkinson’s disease, the second most common neurological disease in the world in old age. Walking disorders, balance disorders, falls and fall-related injuries severely affect the quality of daily life of most people with Parkinson’s disease.
A multicenter study involving eight national centers of excellence showed that thanks to the use of an innovative device for active stimulation, the patient regains awareness of his body. This tool, applied to the patient’s skin, allows the stimulation of the proprioceptive system, improving its general balance.
Our technology, present in the gait analysis laboratories of the Centers, allowed the evaluation of the patient’s walk taking part in this study.
The 6 SMART-DX cameras have been positioned so as to allow patients to walk for 10 meters and, thanks to the Davis analysis protocol, the following parameters have been reported: walking speed, stride length, duration os the gait cycle phases.
The accuracy of the measurement carried out thanks to the use of our laboratories allowed us to detect a significant improvement in the gait parameters analyzed at the end of the two treatment phases with active stimulation.
