While medical clearance is typically based on functional and psychological assessments, determining the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">true readiness<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of an athlete to resume competition remains complex and multidimensional.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In recent years, the RTS test has been introduced as a comprehensive tool to evaluate both the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">physical and psychological preparedness<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of athletes. psychometric data, enhancing the objectivity of the RTS evaluation.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW39785452 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The study: population and methods<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The study involved <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">108 athletes<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> who had undergone ACL reconstruction and subsequently returned to sport. The average age was <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">24.6 years<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (range 14\u201346). Athletes who did not pass the test showed a higher recurrence of ACL injuries within 12 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The role of psychological readiness<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Beyond physical performance, the study explored the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">psychological dimension<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of recovery.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Athletes who expressed higher levels of <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">confidence and self-efficacy<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2014for example, believing they could perform at their pre-injury level\u2014tended to score higher on the RTS test.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This moderate yet consistent correlation highlights the importance of incorporating <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mental readiness<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> into the return-to-sport decision-making process. A successful recovery is not only about physical strength and biomechanics, but also about <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">trusting one\u2019s body again<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rehabilitation time: not the only factor<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Interestingly, the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">length of the rehabilitation period<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was not significantly different between athletes who did and did not experience a reinjury.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">This finding indicates that <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">time alone is not a reliable measure of recovery<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
