Progressing Sports Science into Our Daily Training

The Von D. Oehmig Sports Performance Center at the Baylor School in Chattanooga stands as a premier facility dedicated to the athletic development of its students. Recognizing the importance of objective data, the Center has partnered with BTS Bioengineering, the leader in force plate technology.

Adding weekly evaluations with this advanced system has given us an incredible insight into our athletes’ functional capabilities. The data we are collecting gives us the ability to design individual training programs, as well as evaluate and refine those already in progress.

Bridging The Gap

The most important job of Strength & Conditioning is translation to Sports Performance. If work is being done in the weight room that does not translate onto the filed or court, then it is not Sports Performance. Using BTS’s force PODIUM and FREELAB allows us to connect our training with functional sport movements. We can profile and identify the best strategies to continue the progression of our Athletes.

Fatigue Monitoring and Performance Profiles

Using simple easy jump testing, our force PODIUM gives us instant insight to how our athletes bodies and nervous systems are responding to stress. Using these numbers, we can track fatigue on a weekly basis to ensure efficient training. When fatigue is optimized athletes stay healthier and continue to progress. Identifying strengths and weaknesses through their force profile helps us understand what kind of mover the athlete is. Sports Performance is based upon movement and increasing an athlete’s ability to produce force. Athletes produce and display force in many different forms. Identifying how the individual expresses force in different patterns is the key insight to increase their force development.

The Biggest Difference

Using our BTS performance lab we are now moving to be more progressive instead of being reactive. We can now grow and develop actionable plans daily and weekly, in addition to reacting to long term outcomes or injuries.
